Driscoll: A summary of Chapter 1 - A Tall Glass of Toilet Water

While our culture has provided numerous veins of sexual allurement and satisfaction the church has failed to counter sexual thirst with the live giving water of God (Jer. 2:13). The church has failed because of its effeminate nature, and it weak and passive pastors who are afraid to speak of sex since many are often participating in sexual sin themselves. Thankfully, God has given us his Word which is pointed, corrective, and explicit. (2 Tim. 3:16) Passages such as Ezekiel 16:25-27 and 23:18-21 prove God's blunt demeanor toward man's wayward ways. Driscoll states, "In our age of lewdness and perversion we, like our Father, must avoid crassness, while wisely and boldly speaking frankly about the joy and beauty of sexual intimacy when it is confined by the loving directions of the God who created both us and our desires."

So I urge each of us to take responsibility in making one another accountable to the sin of sexual lust. It has ruined the lives of numerous men and hence numerous churches. The spiritual lives of many men have been choked out with guilt and shame. So let's, by God's grace, fight the good fight of faith by tackling the onslaught of toilet water and may we see the church refreshed with the life-giving of water of Spirit.
